The village mansion

When the British colonised South East Asia for plantations, they needed financially savvy people to run accounts. Chettiars from Southern India were hired to run these operations. Many financial institutions in South East Asia were started by Chettiars.

These Chettiars hail from 10 villages in the state of Tamilnadu of India, where they built palatial mansions with the wealth they accumulated.

This art is a tribute to their enterprising nature.
